Welcome on the site of the Belgian Society for Pathological Anatomy
The Belgian Society of Anatomo-Pathology joins medicals and people of related professions with special interest in diagnosis and in research on nature, mechanisms and causes of disease.
Clinical pathologists are specialized medical doctors that make a fundamental contribution to diagnosis and eventual optimal therapy through morphologic diagnostic tools and through microscopic examination of cells and tissues.
Tumour pathology is the study of cells and tissues involved in a proliferative process and includes qualification as benign or malignant. The pathologist defines margins and completeness of excision specimens. Specific typing and subtyping of tumours is essential in order to make the most appropriate therapeutic choice with best chances for success.
Post mortem examination is an important tool in clinical evaluation and feed-back, as well as quality surveillance in the hospital.
Molecular pathology aims to elucidate the molecular basis of disease and sensitivity of malignant tumours for modern molecular therapy.
The pathologist functions as a most valuable advisor of the clinician in matters of diagnosis and therapy and as such is a highly valuated partner in all discussion forums of patient management.
